View to the Northeast
Orchards in bloom
If you prefer to stay close to home, our 160 acres of woods, fields and idle orchards are ideal for walking, birding and wildlife viewing.  Take a walk along Allen Brook as it winds through one of the deepest gorges in Massachusetts, and follows the edge of our property into Greenfield. If you are quiet, you may see a deer, a flock of wild turkeys or even a bear.  Visit our beaver dam to watch those busy fellows work.

A winter wonderland in the orchards
In the winter, the fields are perfect for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing; enjoy a hot cup of tea or cocoa when you return to the homestead.

The Pioneer Valley has a rich culture of arts, music and theater. In the summer, the Mohawk Trail Concerts fill the hills with classical music performed by some of the finest artists.  If you are a musician, you may wish to spend the night at our Bed and Breakfast to prepare for your own recording session at Avocet Studios, one of the best small recording studios in New England, located right on our property.

Nearby museums including Historic Deerfield, local historical society museums, and museums at area colleges provide a look at our heritage.

The area is rich with antique shops, and several auction houses provide a source for art and antiques at bargain proces, or just entertainment as you watch others vie for goods under a tent or at a country estate.
