About Kenburn Orchards
At
Kenburn Orchards Bed and Breakfast, we
offer you a choice of three spacious
guest rooms, each with a private bath en suite furnished
with the finest amenities you'd expect in a quality
inn.
We
have lovingly restored our family's
stately colonial farmhouse, built in
1877, which sits atop our own hill, surrounded
by 150 private acres on which we grow
Christmas trees, blueberries, raspberries,
blackberries and lingonberries. In season,
these fruits and berries find their
way into our home-made breads, muffins
and breakfasts, and Susan's
fruit preserves.
We
are located in Shelburne, just over the Greenfield
line, (three miles west of I-91 exit
26), but we're a world away, set back
from the scenic Mohawk Trail in the
midst of an old apple orchard. Looking east
across the Connecticut River to the
hills beyond, we can see all the way to Mount
Monadnock, more than fifty miles away
in New Hampshire.
We are in an extraordinarily beautiful rural area known for its history, schools and museums, picturesque farms and year 'round opportunities for outdoor activities. The quiet beauty of the area seems to promote creativity; the hills are alive with music, and many world-class artists and crafts-people live and work here. A number of festivals and events sponsored by a variety of local organizations ensure that there is usually something wonderful going on nearby.
| Stone steps adjacent to our flowing water gardens lead to our big front porch, where you'll find antique rocking chairs waiting. For privacy and convenience, we provide a separate entrance into the portion of the house dedicated solely to guests. |
 |
|
| You'll enter into the formal dining room, where our home-made breakfast
is served, and walk through to the sitting
room with its gas parlor stove for cozy relaxation. All
rooms are simply furnished with antiques, oriental
rugs and original artwork. |

We
are proud to serve our
guests Berkshire Highlands
B&B
blend of 100% organic fair-traded coffee, available only through McCusker's
Market in Shelburne Falls.
|
Breakfast, always home-made with fresh, local ingredients,
is served in the dining room, except
on particularly nice summer days,
when almost everyone prefers to
eat on the porch. You'll
be offered a multi-course breakfast
with fresh-baked breads, home-made
granola and fresh seasonal fruit,
along with a special entree each
day, perhaps waffles, a clafuti,
fruit-filled pancakes, or one
of Larry's omelets usually served
with fresh hot popovers.
We
serve locally grown or produced
food whenever possible, both to
ensure quality and freshness, as
well as to support the economic
endeavors of our community and
fellow farmers. |
|
 |
Our guests are encouraged to explore the natural
beauty of our old orchards,
farm fields and woodlands. You
may hike or bring your own
cross-country skis or snow
shoes. We
manage the land to promote
and enhance wildlife habitats,
so you may be fortunate enough
to encounter some of the abundant
wildlife in the surrounding
fields, streams and woods. |
|
|
| We share with you the comfort of our home, the vitality of our community,
and the restorative powers of the nature surrounding
us. Ours
is a non-smoking home. Our
dogs Moxie and Honey are part of our family,
and of your stay with us. |
